Chief Scientists Office, Ministry of Health

The Chief Scientists office of the Ministry of Health (CSO-MOH) is an important junction for the advancement of medical research in Israel. Being the main fund dedicated solely to medical research, the Chief Scientist Medical Research Fund is an important source for funding medical research in Israel. In addition to administrative handling, scientific review and funding of grant applications submitted to the Fund, it also reviews and recommends on funding of applications made to other organizations that support medical research. The Minister of Health has entrusted the CSO-MOH with the responsibility of the implementation of laws regulating medical research. All animal experimentation in Israel, whether in universities, research institutes, hospitals and industry is regulated and supervised by the CSO-MOH according to the 1994 Animal Experimentation Act. The National Committee for Human Medical Research reviews and approves applications of all genetic research projects in Israel. It implements the Genetic Information Law-2000 and the Law on Prohibition of Genetic Intervention(Human Cloning and Genetic Manipulation of Reproductive Cells-1999).
